Faith in the Unseen

A couple of months ago, my kids borrowed my truck and totaled it.  Everyone was OK, but I no longer had a vehicle.I drive 20 miles to work every day and 20 miles back, I try to prioritize fuel efficientcy when buying a car for me to use.  And I usually get the 10-15 year old car that I do not need to get a loan for.  A year ago, my 18 year old car lost a wheel on an intersate, so I was already down my everyday driver, now I was down my towing vehicle as well.  I found a car I liked on a website that delivers the car to you.  I am back to using half as much gas as I was in the truck, so I was happy.  But for the first time, I got a car that has some bells and whistles on it.  One day while driving to work, I was playing around with the adaptive cruise control.  I did not know what this was so I had to look it up, basically the car will sense the car in front of you and adjust your speed automatically when you are using cruise control.  So I was trying it out on the major road way in our suburban area, and had the distance sensor set to the 3rd farthest out of 4.  If you ever want to feel what it is to trust n something you cannot see, get a car with this feature and use it during rush hour.  "Faith is the realization of things hoped for, the confidence of things unseen" (Hebrews 11:1)  This is exactly what the adaptive cruise control is.  I was certainly hoping the sensors would work and the car would brake on its own.  This was hard, it would start to bake a little after I wanted to.  The more I allowed it to keep control, the confidence I had in this thing unseen grew.  Is this not exactly what we aught to do with our lives?  We turn control of our needs, out blessings, our provisions, our hurts over to God and trust that He has it.  Just like the car not braking at the same time I would have, God's timing is different than ours, but his way is better.  If the miles to empty is accurate, letting the car drive itself is more fuel efficient than me driving it.  All I had to do was turn the steering wheel to make sure I stayed on course.

I pray that each of us would do something or try something that would build your confidence in our unseen savior and realize that He is what is hoped for.
